Nick Fury Mini

Superhero Identity: Nick Fury

Real Name:  Nicholas Joseph Fury, Jr.

Played By: Samuel L. Jackson

Marvel Cinematic Universe History:  In 2002, the Nick Fury of the Marvel Ultimate Universe was redesigned to look like actor and prominent bad-ass Samuel L. Jackson. In 2008, Jackson made his debut as the character in the blockbuster film Iron Man. It was only a brief cameo in a post-credits scene for the movie, but Fury’s visit with Tony Stark laid the groundwork for what would become the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fury would continue to pop-up in more Marvel films. In Iron Man 2, he revealed to Stark that his new assistant, Natalie Rushman, was actually a deadly assassin and S.H.I.E.L.D. operative named Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. In Thor, Fury once again appeared in a post-credits scene giving the world the first look at the Tesseract. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Fury was there when Steve Rogers found out he was no longer in the 1940s.

All of these cameo appearances would lead to Nick Fury being the centerpiece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the film Marvel’s The Avengers. As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury would play a pivotal role in stopping Loki and keeping New York City safe from the dangerous actions of world leaders. After the fall of the Chitauri army, Nick Fury would return in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In this instant classic, Fury and all of S.H.I.E.L.D. would come under attack from Hydra, which had infiltrated the espionage organization as well as the government. In order to save the world, Fury would have to sacrifice S.H.I.E.L.D. and its army of helicarriers. When Hydra was defeated, Fury fled to Europe under the cover of his apparent death to wipe out any remaining Hydra cells.
